Although about 2 million people have served in the U.S. military, many still know very little about the service experience. Some common questions often revolve around lodging and military camp. So, how do you camp like a soldier? In the civil war days, soldiers used shelter halves. Of course, this doesn't sound like much protection, but they were used because of their flexibility and lightweight design that made them easy to move. They could also be combined with other halves if needed for additional protection from harsh weather conditions. These tents would often be held up by sticks with a blanket underneath to create even ground (this is why we often use tarps underneath our tents today!).
